May 2026 Update: New Research Tools and 14,000 Additional Indexes Added

Researching family in Galicia often means following dozens of small clues across many searches, villages, surnames, and record sets. One discovery leads to another—and before long, it can become difficult to remember exactly which records you already reviewed or where you found an important ancestor.

This month brings two major workflow improvements designed to make research more organized and efficient, along with over 14,000 newly indexed records added to the databases.

New Research Tools: My Saved Records & My Viewed Records

As Galicia Genealogy continues to grow, the goal is not only to provide access to records but also to improve the overall research experience. To help researchers stay organized, two new account-based features are now available.

📌 My Saved Records

Researchers can now save important birth, marriage, and death records directly to their account while browsing the databases.

Whether you are:

  • Building out a specific family line
  • Comparing records across villages
  • Tracking possible surname matches
  • Collecting evidence before drawing conclusions

My Saved Records provides a centralized location where important discoveries can be stored and revisited later without repeating searches.

This is especially valuable for Galicia research, where:

  • Surnames often appear with spelling variations
  • Multiple villages may share the same name
  • Parish boundaries changed over time
  • Records frequently need to be revisited as new evidence emerges

Instead of maintaining separate spreadsheets, screenshots, or handwritten notes, researchers can now begin organizing discoveries directly within Galicia Genealogy.

👀 My Viewed Records

Genealogy research is rarely a straight line.

Sometimes we open a record simply to investigate a possibility, compare names, check witnesses, review house numbers, or examine neighboring families. Hours later, it can be difficult to remember exactly which entries were already reviewed.

My Viewed Records creates a running history of recent research activity, making it easier to:

  • Retrace research paths
  • Revisit previously explored families
  • Compare records side-by-side
  • Continue where you left off during earlier research sessions

Think of it as a lightweight research trail built directly into the platform.

🧭 Building Galicia Genealogy Into a Research Platform

From the beginning, the goal was never simply to create another searchable database.

Galicia Genealogy is being built as a research environment specifically designed around the realities of Galician family history:

  • Interconnected villages and parishes
  • Migration patterns
  • Surname evolution
  • Record reconstruction
  • Long-form family analysis

As the databases continue growing beyond 274,000 indexed records, organization and workflow tools become just as important as the records themselves.

This release represents the first major step toward a more integrated research experience. Future development plans include research notes, record tagging, research sessions, saved surnames, PDF exports, and additional tools designed to help researchers manage complex family investigations.
